What the DataForSEO integration in SEOMURAI does

DataForSEO is one of the most established providers of raw SEO data: live SERP results, keyword search volume, domain evaluations, backlink profiles. SEOMURAI makes this data accessible directly from your browser, at the moment you are already on the relevant page. This saves you switching to a separate application and makes research tasks faster.

The integration follows the BYOK principle (“Bring Your Own Key”): you store your own DataForSEO credentials in the settings and are billed per query directly by DataForSEO. We do not charge any markup and we do not see your data. As a result, the DataForSEO integration remains fully usable in the free plan, including CSV and JSON export.

Seven analysis modules are included: SERP Rankings, Keyword Research, Domain & URL Data and Backlinks, joined in version 1.7 by three Beta modules: AI Visibility, Ask the LLMs and Google Trends. They are accompanied by the Research History with locally stored queries and by extensive export functions.

When this menu is especially useful

  • For keyword research while planning the content of new pages or posts.
  • For SERP monitoring of important search queries, without opening a second tool.
  • For competitor analysis, by evaluating a competitor domain and seeing its most important keywords.
  • For backlink evaluations before outreach campaigns or disavow decisions.
  • For checking how visible a brand or domain is in AI answers from ChatGPT and Google AI.
  • For sending a quick prompt to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity and comparing the answers, including cited sources.
  • For comparing the search interest of up to 5 terms over time, by region and by source with Google Trends data.
  • When you need results in CSV and JSON form for reports or further analysis.

Step by step

1. Create a DataForSEO account

If you do not have an account yet, register at dataforseo.com and load an initial balance into your account. DataForSEO bills per query, the amounts per call are typically in the cent range, and you will find the exact pricing in their price list. Signing up takes only a few minutes.

2. Store your credentials in SEOMURAI

Open SEOMURAI and go to Settings → Credentials. Enter your DataForSEO login (usually your email address) and the corresponding password. Both values remain locally in your browser’s chrome.storage and do not leave your computer. SEOMURAI uses the credentials exclusively to talk directly to the DataForSEO API. Since version 1.7 the Credentials tab also shows your current DataForSEO account balance, with a refresh button; after a successful connection test the balance refreshes automatically.

3. Query SERP Rankings

In the SERP Rankings subtab, enter a keyword and a location. SEOMURAI retrieves the live Google search results for this combination and shows the organic results with position, title, descriptive snippet and URL. At a glance you can see which domains are visible for your keyword, which snippet strategies work and where your own domain stands. Currently 22 markets are supported (DACH, core EU countries, English-speaking markets, Latin America and some Asian markets).

4. Use Keyword Research

In the Keyword Research subtab, enter one or more search terms and you receive search volume, average cost per click (CPC), a competition value and automated keyword suggestions. The suggestions are useful for discovering thematically related terms you had not thought of yourself, and they form the basis for broad topic cluster planning. Since version 1.7 a toggle adds AI search volume as an optional extra column, and the column is included in the CSV export.

5. Use Domain & URL Data

In the Domain & URL Data subtab, enter a domain or a specific URL and you receive all keywords this address ranks for, including position and target URL within the domain. This is an excellent way to set up a competitor analysis or to assess the SEO performance of a single subpage. The table can be sorted and filtered, so you can, for example, display only top 10 rankings or only keywords with meaningful search volume.

6. Analyze Backlinks

In the Backlinks subtab you receive the backlink profile of the entered domain: referring domains, the individual backlinks with URL, anchor text and attributes, the dofollow share and the most important incoming URLs. This evaluation is the basis for outreach strategies, for disavow decisions and for assessing how a page’s link profile has developed over time. Version 1.7 expands the module: you choose the result limit yourself (50, 100, 250, 500 or 1000 entries), the columns in all three views are sortable, and a new domain rank column replaces the earlier per-domain dofollow column, which always showed zero. In addition, the backlink list endpoints no longer require a DataForSEO monthly commitment, so a normal account with a per-query balance is sufficient.

7. Check AI Visibility (Beta)

The AI Visibility subtab, new in version 1.7 and marked as Beta, shows how present a brand or a domain is in AI answers. Supported platforms are ChatGPT and Google AI, and the location is selectable. Three sub-views structure the results: the overview with mentions, AI search volume, top source domains and brand entities; the AI answers view with real answers including their cited sources; and the comparison view, which places you next to up to 9 competitors. Like the other DataForSEO modules, it is free in SEOMURAI, you only pay DataForSEO for the queries.

8. Ask the LLMs (Beta)

In the Ask the LLMs subtab, also new in version 1.7 and marked as Beta, you send a prompt of up to 500 characters (a live counter shows how much room is left) to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity. The model list for each provider is loaded dynamically, and a web-search toggle controls whether the model may search the web. The result shows the answer together with its cited sources, the fan-out queries and the token counts. A copy button takes over the answer with one click, and a Markdown export saves it as a file.

9. Use Google Trends (Beta)

The Google Trends subtab, the third Beta module from version 1.7, compares up to 5 search terms. The interest over time sub-view draws an interactive SVG chart with hover tooltips that show the exact values, the regions sub-view lists the regional distribution as a bar table, and the topics & queries sub-view shows top and rising entries, where increases from +5000 percent receive a breakout badge. Due to an API limitation, topics & queries is only available with exactly 1 term. Time-range presets reach from the past 24 hours to the full history, the source is selectable (Web Search, News, YouTube, Images, Shopping) and the location list includes a worldwide option. The time course and the regions can each be exported as CSV, and the “Open in Google Trends” link takes you to the original view.

10. Keep an eye on your API costs

Since version 1.7, every DataForSEO tab shows the real API cost that DataForSEO has billed for the query, plus a running total for the current session. If a result comes from the cache, the cost line shows “no new costs” instead. If you prefer a quieter interface, you can hide the cost lines with the Show API costs setting under Settings → General; it is enabled by default. Together with the account balance in the Credentials tab you always know exactly where you stand.

11. Use the Research History

Every DataForSEO query is automatically saved in the local Research History, including parameters and complete results. This way you do not have to pay for a query again if you want to see the same evaluation two days later. The history covers the four classic modules (SERP Rankings, Keyword Research, Domain & URL Data, Backlinks), can be filtered by module type and is searchable (keywords, domains, locations). Up to 100 entries are stored, older ones are removed automatically. Through the history modal interface you can delete individual entries or remove the entire history.

12. Export your results

From each of the four classic modules you can export the results as a CSV file, and the entire history can additionally be saved as a JSON file and restored on another device. The Beta modules bring their own exports: Google Trends saves the time course and the regions as CSV, and Ask the LLMs saves answers as Markdown. All exports are expressly included in the free SEOMURAI plan as well, because you already pay for the queries directly at DataForSEO. An additional hurdle on our side would not be fair.

Frequently asked questions

Tips and frequently asked questions

What does a single query cost at DataForSEO?

The amounts per call are typically in the cent range, depending on the endpoint and the amount of data. SERP requests are usually cheaper than extensive backlink evaluations of large domains. DataForSEO maintains the exact, current price table itself at dataforseo.com/pricing. SEOMURAI does not change anything about the billing. Since version 1.7, every DataForSEO tab additionally shows the real billed cost per query and a session total, so you can see at any time what your research has cost.

Why is the DataForSEO integration marked as “Beta”?

The four classic analysis modules are fully functional and in daily use. “Beta” here means that we continue to refine the user interface and the evaluations step by step, based on feedback from practical use. The three modules added in version 1.7 (AI Visibility, Ask the LLMs and Google Trends) carry the Beta label for the same reason. Nothing changes about the data itself, it comes directly from DataForSEO.

Are my requests cached?

Yes, in the running session cache of SEOMURAI for 15 minutes. If you trigger the same query again within this time, the stored result is displayed without an additional paid query being sent to DataForSEO. After 15 minutes the cache is discarded, or you fall back on the Research History, which keeps the data permanently (locally, up to 100 entries). Since version 1.7 the cost line makes cache hits visible: it shows “no new costs” instead of an amount.

Which markets are supported?

Currently 22 locations, grouped by region: DACH and core EU countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Poland), English-speaking markets (United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, India), Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina) and Asia (Japan). We extend the list as needed. Write to us via the contact form if your important market is missing. The Google Trends module additionally offers a worldwide option.

Does the data really never leave my computer via minoka.de?

Correct. The HTTP requests go directly from your browser to the DataForSEO API, with your credentials. minoka.de is not involved, we see neither your requests nor their results. The Research History also stays locally in chrome.storage. Using the backup export and import, you can explicitly transfer it between your own devices.

How many entries does the Research History store?

Up to 100 entries in total, across the four classic module types (SERP Rankings, Keyword Research, Domain & URL Data, Backlinks). The oldest entry is removed automatically as soon as a new one is added and the limit is reached. If you want to archive research going further back, export the history regularly as a JSON file.

Do backlink evaluations require a DataForSEO monthly commitment?

No. The backlink list endpoints used by SEOMURAI no longer require a DataForSEO monthly commitment. A normal account with a per-query balance is enough for all backlink evaluations.

What do the three new Beta modules cost in SEOMURAI?

On the SEOMURAI side, nothing. AI Visibility, Ask the LLMs and Google Trends are included in the free plan; you only need stored DataForSEO credentials and pay DataForSEO per query. The cost line in each tab shows the exact billed amount, and cache hits do not trigger new costs.
