Time Calculator: Years, Months, Weeks and Days Between Two Dates

The Time Calculator works out the duration between two points in time to the minute. You get the result broken down into years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, plus the total number of weeks. One checkbox lets you count from a date until now, for example for an age, a length of employment or the time since an event.

The calculator comes from a German plugin; its labels are shown in English on this page. Dates use the day.month.year format with a 24-hour clock.

How to use the time calculator

  1. Enter the start date and time in the first field (day.month.year hour:minute). A calendar opens when you click into the field.
  2. Enter the end date and time in the second field or tick Until now to use the current time of your device as the end.
  3. The result appears immediately and updates with every change: years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, followed by the total number of weeks as a figure and as a row of dots, one dot per week.

What the result means

The six rows build on each other. The calculator first counts the full years, then the full months of the remainder, then weeks, days, hours and minutes. The figures are not conversions of the same duration but a chain.

Example: from 1 March 2024 at 08:00 to 3 September 2026 at 10:30 is 2 years, 6 months, 0 weeks, 2 days, 2 hours and 30 minutes. The whole span is 916 days, which is 130 full weeks.

The row Total weeks converts the whole span into full weeks independently of the chain. It is the figure you need when a duration has to be expressed in weeks, for instance for a project plan, a deadline or a pregnancy.

Typical calculations

  • Years between two dates: from 1 September 2014 to 3 September 2026 is 12 years and 2 days, 4,385 days in total.
  • Exact age: date and time of birth as the start, Until now ticked.
  • Length of employment: start date of the job as the start, Until now or the leaving date as the end.
  • Time remaining until a deadline: enter the deadline as the start and tick the Until now box; the calculator swaps the order itself and shows the remaining time.
  • Contract terms, notice periods, warranties: contract start and contract end as start and end.
  • Project duration, study duration, parental leave: enter start and end and read off the total number of weeks.

Converting weeks, months and years

These values help with rough estimates when no specific date is known. Exact results need real dates, because months have 28 to 31 days and leap years have one day more.

ValueEquals
1 week7 days, 168 hours
1 month30.44 days on average (365.25 days divided by 12)
1 year365 days, 366 in a leap year; 52 weeks and 1 day
30 weeks210 days, roughly 6.9 months
100 days14 weeks and 2 days, roughly 3.3 months
1,000 days142 weeks and 6 days, roughly 2 years and 9 months

How the calculator counts

  • Calendar-based: years and months are counted on the calendar, not with average values. Leap years and months of different length are taken into account.
  • Order does not matter: if the start lies after the end, the calculator swaps the two and shows a positive duration.
  • Time zone: the calculation uses the time zone of your browser. Years down to days follow the calendar; hours, minutes and the total number of weeks follow the time that actually passed. Across a daylight saving change the two can differ by one hour.
  • Range: dates from 1 January 1900 up to ten years into the future, entered as day.month.year hour:minute.
  • In your browser: the calculation runs entirely on your device. No input is transmitted to minoka.de or to third parties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the years between two dates?

Enter the start date and the end date. The calculator shows the full years and the remainder in months, weeks, days, hours and minutes. From 1 September 2014 to 3 September 2026 that is 12 years and 2 days, or 4,385 days and 626 full weeks.

How many months are 30 weeks?

30 weeks is 210 days. A month has 30.44 days on average, so 30 weeks correspond to roughly 6.9 months. With a real start date the calculator counts calendar months, so the result reflects the actual length of each month.

How many weeks are in a year?

A year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks and 1 day. A leap year has 366 days, which is 52 weeks and 2 days. The calculator counts full weeks only; the remaining days appear in the days row.

Does the calculator account for leap years?

Yes. It works with the calendar rather than with average values. A 29 February counts as a day, and a year from 1 March to 1 March is a full year regardless of whether a leap year lies in between.

Can I calculate the time until now?

Yes. Tick the box labelled Until now. The calculator then uses the current date and time of your device as the end point, which gives you an exact age or a period of employment up to this minute.

What happens if the start date is after the end date?

The calculator swaps the two points in time and shows the duration as a positive value. You can therefore enter a future date as the start to see the time remaining until an appointment.

Is my input stored or transmitted?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. The script sends nothing to minoka.de or to third parties, and your input is gone once you leave the page.
